Frequently asked questions...

Do you allow dogs?
Yes. Dogs are welcome provided they are kept tethered or on a lead whilst on site. We also ask that dogs are not left alone on site while you go out for the day

How far are you from St Davids?
We are about a mile and a half from St Davids. It takes five minutes or so to drive there or 25 minutes to walk in. For most of the season the local bus stops at the top of the lane and takes you to Whitesands and St Davids.

How far are you from the beach?
We are about half a mile from the large sandy beach at Whitesands. It takes about 10 minutes to walk there along the road. There is a large car park next to the beach if you would prefer to drive down. Whitesands is popular with surfers and body-boarders, while younger visitors will love the rockpools.

Are dogs allowed on the beach?
Between May 1st and September 30th dogs are not allowed on the main beach at Whitesands. However, they are welcome on Porth Melgan, a lovely little sandy beach a few minutes walk north from Whitesands along the coast path. There are several other dog friendly beaches within a few minutes drive of the site.

Where are the nearest pubs and restaurants?
During the peak season, the beach cafe at Whitesands offers a range of tasty evening meals. The city of St Davids is just a mile and a half away and features a variety of pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Our site shop also stocks a wide range of cold wine and beer.

Are there public transport links near the site?
The National Park’s coastal bus service runs regularly from Whitesands to St Davids. You can catch the bus right outside the site entrance. From St Davids, a variety of bus services are available with links to locations throughout the county.

Do I need to book?
To avoid disappointment we’d always recommend booking in advance. During school holiday periods early booking is essential to guarantee your exact dates, particularly if your require a pitch with electric hook-up. At all other times we tend to have more availability and can often accommodate visitors at short notice.

How many pitches do you have?
We have 40 electric hook-up pitches and approximately 40 standard pitches without electric hook-up. We are a very popular site and will be busy during peak periods, but we do try to maintain a quiet atmosphere on site at all times.

Are your pitches flat?
Yes, our site is very flat. Some pitches may have very slight humps and hollows, but as a general guide, the site is flat.

Can my friend and I pitch next to each other?
If you both book pitches with electric hook-up then you can be sited right next to one another. If only one books an electric hook-up then the other will be sited as near as 30 yards or so away. All of our electric hook-up bookings are allocated a pitch prior to arrival. Bookings without electric hook-up are given a choice of pitching anywhere outside of the designated hook-up areas upon arrival.

What time can we arrive and what time do we have to leave?
During peak season bookings without electric hook-up can arrive any time after midday. Bookings with electric hook-up can arrive any time after 1pm. If you arrive after the reception area has closed in the evening, please follow the signs for reception where you will find a note explaining where to pitch. On your day of departure, pitches with electric hook-up must be vacated by 10-30am, while all other pitches must be vacated by 12 noon. Outside of peak season, you can arrive earlier and leave later if you ask us first.

Are there any additional charges once we get there?
The only additional charge is for the showers. We charge 20p (a 20p coin rather than tokens) for a four minute shower. Charging a nominal fee for showers drastically reduces the amount of water we waste and removes the need to queue for a shower, as people spend less time

Do you rent out static caravans?
We do not rent out caravans - all the static vans on site are privately owned.

Is there WiFi on site?
There is WiFi throughout the site, so you can access the internet from your pitch. We charge £3 for 24 hours, £5 for three days and £10 for a week. While the service is ample for web browsing, email etc please bear in mind that due to our remote rural location it is not fast enough for video streaming services like iPlayer or Netflix.

Do you accept single sex groups?
Rather than have a rigid policy, we try to assess each application individually. Generally, if you are looking to visit outside of the school holiday period and are willing to abide by certain guidelines regarding noise, litter, respect for others etc, we’d be happy to accommodate you.

Do you refund deposits in the event of cancellation?
Deposits are by their very nature non-refundable. However, if we are notified more than six weeks prior to arrival, then we’ll refund the deposit. If we are informed more than three weeks prior to arrival we’re willing to defer the deposit to another booking later in the same year (apart from peak season). If we are informed of cancellation less than three weeks prior to arrival then we can not refund or defer the deposit.

Do you offer refunds if it rains?
No. All nights booked must be paid for on arrival and no payment can be refunded under any circumstance.

Do we have to pay for hot water and showers?
Hot water is free and is available 24 hours a day in our toilet and shower blocks, our laundrette and our dish washing facilities. Our showers cost 20p for about four minutes. We have found that by charging a nominal fee people spend significantly less time in the showers, which means we tend not to have any queues for showers. It also has a positive environmental impact as we now waste very little water.

Do you allow barbecues and campfires?
You are welcome to have barbecues on site, but we do ask that you try and avoid burning the grass. If you are cooking on a disposable or low barbecue, please pick up a few free bricks from the reception area. It ensures the people visiting after you aren’t left with a black square on their pitch. Open fires of any description are not permitted for both safety reasons and the damage they do to the ground.

Do you allow Supermarket deliveries on site?
As we have our own shop, we do not allow supermarkets to deliver on site. The site shop features a wide range of food at competitive prices. If we allowed supermarket deliveries, the site shop would no longer be sustainable and visitors would lose a convenient source of essential items.

Do you freeze ice-packs?
Yes we do. There is a free ice pack freezer in the laundry room. This freezer is only for ice packs, and should not be used to store food.

Can we charge mobile phones on site?
Again the site shop offers a charging service. Any small items (mobile phones, cameras, laptops, DVD players, games consoles etc) can be left at the shop to be charged for the cost of 50p per item.

When do your season end?
Our site opens on the 1st of March and ends after the autumn half term at the end of October. The site shop opens at Easter and closes around the middle of September. We often have fantastic weather in the autumn, so it’s worth considering a visit outside of what many people consider the traditional summer season. You’ll certainly get a different perspective of Pembrokeshire life, with quiet beaches, long stretches of the coast path all to yourself and a very different pace of life.
